Solar panel output calculator for your address

Enter your town, the number of panels, the tilt and the orientation. You get annual and monthly generation from PVGIS, the European Commission’s tool, and the tilt that generates most where you live.

Total output :

Estimated generation

Choose your town to run the calculation.

Specific yield
— kWh per kWp per year

14% system losses. Shading from nearby trees or buildings is not taken into account.

How to read the result

Annual generation

AC electricity over an average year, after 14% losses (cables, inverter, soiling, heat). Use it to compare options, not as a guaranteed bill saving.

Specific yield

kWh generated per kWp installed. It mostly depends on the sunshine where you live, so it is the right figure for comparing places or orientations.

Best tilt

PVGIS works out the angle that generates most for the chosen orientation. A shallower angle generates slightly less but reduces wind load and structure height.

Solar output FAQ

Where do the figures come from?
From PVGIS 5.3, the free tool of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre. It uses several years of satellite irradiation data for your exact position, crystalline silicon panels and 14% system losses.
Does it account for shading?
It accounts for the distant horizon (hills, mountains) but not for nearby shade from trees, chimneys or neighbouring buildings. If your spot is shaded for part of the day, real output will be lower.
What is the price per kWh for?
It gives a rough value for the electricity generated at the price you enter. It is not a guaranteed saving: that depends on how much you use yourself and what you are paid for exported power.
Why does the structure change the output?
Because it sets the tilt and orientation of the panels. A ground mount or carport can be set freely, while roof panels follow the roof pitch. The calculator lets you compare before you choose.
