What is a solar carport?

A solar carport is a metal structure that shelters one or more vehicles and whose roof integrates photovoltaic modules. Dual function: protection from rain, hail and UV for the vehicle, and electricity production support for the house or EV charger.

The study comes before the hardware quotation and produces usable plans for your site, whether or not you later buy the structure from Sunrak.

    Compact, Project or Pro according to installed capacity. You commission a standalone design service for your site and retain your project drawings.

  2. Complete the technical brief

    Site, dimensions, modules, ground or roof, photographs and available drawings. Calculations start after the completeness check.

  3. Our engineering team calculates

    Wind, snow, exposure, support, loads and connections are checked against the site data and applicable standards.

  4. Receive plans, then the hardware quote

    After payment, the project-specific drawings are yours. Sunrak then prices the exact hardware; the study fee is creditable under the stated conditions.

Engineering comes before the hardware quotation. You then remain free to choose your supplier.

How much does the structure cost for a 2-car solar carport?
Count approx. £3,900 to £10,400 net for the metal mounting structure alone (anodised aluminium or galvanised steel), DDP delivery included; the paid study is credited under the stated conditions. Outside Sunrak's scope: solar panels, inverter, grid connection, electrical installation — to budget separately with your PV installer (add roughly £6,200–11,500 net for those items).
What power can I produce?
A 2-car carport (6×5.5 m) accommodates 16-20 modern panels — 4.5 to 6 kWp peak output.
Do I need planning permission?
Depends on the council. For surface < 30 m², a planning application is generally required but often approved under permitted development. Our drawings are usable directly in your planning file.
What warranty on the metal structure?
20 years structural (corrosion, deformation). 1 year manufacturing defects. Conditions clear in T&Cs, no asterisks.
